“They had everything. She showed them more.”
Katherine Watson (Julia Roberts), fresh from UCLA, walks into her first art history class at Wellesley College in 1953 and finds students who have already memorized the textbook. Mike Newell follows her as she pushes Betty (Kirsten Dunst) and Joan (Julia Stiles) to question the futures laid out for them. She stands at the front of a darkened lecture room, slides glowing on the screen, a roomful of young women watching her.
