In Vigo, on the Galician coast, the shipyard has closed and the men who worked there still meet most days at a bar owned by a former colleague, Rico. Santa (Javier Bardem) acts as their loose leader while a court case hangs over him for smashing a shipyard lamp, and José (Luis Tosar) resents that his wife, Ana, has work when he does not. Fernando León de Aranoa follows the group as the weeks pass, with Santa's trial still ahead and José's pride wearing thinner.
