Mononoke the Movie: The Phantom in the Rain

“Form, Truth, and Reason.”

Asa (Tomoyo Kurosawa) and Kame (Aoi Yuki) arrive as new servants in the inner chambers of the Edo harem, where every woman is watching every other. Beneath the rivalries and the politics sits a vengeful spirit that only a traveling Medicine Seller (Hiroshi Kamiya) can name and drive out. Kenji Nakamura fills the rooms with color and pattern, and the dread in them has to do with who is permitted to be seen, and by whom.
