Moolaadé

Four girls run into a village in Burkina Faso, fleeing the ritual cutting known there as "purification," and ask Collé Gallo Ardo Sy (Fatoumata Coulibaly) for protection. She gives it by moolaadé, a spell of sanctuary, and the whole village is turned against her. Ousmane Sembène, in his last film, films the village in the open air and lets the argument over what a community owes its daughters play out in plain view.
