Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is three years into a solitary contract mining helium-3 on the lunar far side, with only GERTY (Kevin Spacey), an artificial intelligence, for company. As his rotation nears completion, he begins to lose his grip on who he is. Duncan Jones builds the film as a locked-room mystery told in cool grays and blacks, where the truth unfolds in the spaces between what Sam remembers and what GERTY knows.
