Moontide

(1942)Directed by Archie Mayo94 minDrama, Romance, Thriller
“A Great New Star to thrill you! Strange romance to intrigue you!”

Bobo (Jean Gabin), a longshoreman, wakes after a night of heavy drinking with no memory of it and the fear that he killed a man. Archie Mayo follows him through the days afterward, with Tiny (Thomas Mitchell) always nearby and a young woman, Anna (Ida Lupino), who comes into his life while he waits for the answer. Gabin stands in the lamplight, the question of what his hands did the night before still written on his face.
