Mother and Son

In a house in the countryside, a young man tends his dying mother, lifting her from the bed and carrying her out into the open air. Aleksandr Sokurov (1997) follows the two of them through a single day, with Mother (Gudrun Geyer) too weak to walk and Son (Aleksei Ananishnov) taking her on a slow walk through the fields. Nothing passes between them but touch and low talk, and he is already learning how to let her go.
