It is a warm spring day in 1924, Mothering Sunday, and the house where Jane Fairchild (Odessa Young) works as a maid stands empty because her employers are out. Eva Husson follows her to the neighbouring manor and Paul Sheringham (Josh O'Connor), her lover, who is engaged to a childhood friend. Jane has the afternoon to herself, and the day is warm and bright.
