Judith "Jude" Madigan (Jamie Lee Curtis) walked out on her husband and three sons three years ago, and now she has come back without warning. Her husband, Robert (Peter Gallagher), has fallen in love with Callie (Joanne Whalley), an assistant principal at his sons' school, and he asks Jude for a divorce. Yves Simoneau keeps the camera close on the family's rooms, so the dread builds inside the house itself.
