Mountains of the Moon
“Two strangers made friends by a savage land. Two friends made enemies by the civilized world.”
Captain Richard Burton (Patrick Bergin) wants to be the man who finds the source of the Nile, and he has the Royal Geographical Society's backing to try. He takes the young lieutenant John Hanning Speke (Iain Glen) along into Central Africa in 1857, the two of them bound for Queen Victoria's empire's map. Bob Rafelson follows them from Burton's tent to the lakeshore, where the two men stand side by side.
