Mr. & Mrs. Smith

(1941)Directed by Alfred Hitchcock95 minComedy, Romance
“Lombard and Montgomery Get Hitched As They're Getting Unhitched !”

One morning in New York, Ann Smith (Carole Lombard) asks her husband of three years whether he would marry her again, and David (Robert Montgomery) says no. That same day, the two of them learn separately that a legal technicality means they were never married at all. Alfred Hitchcock's screwball comedy turns on the plain question of what a marriage is, a promise on paper or the daily work of two people staying put.
