“Discovering the past can be murder...”

Gregory Arkadin (Orson Welles) is a rich man who says he remembers nothing before the late 1920s, and he hires a convict named Guy Van Stratten to dig up who he was. Welles sends Guy through a run of people from Arkadin's past, among them the grubby, nervous Jakob Zouk (Akim Tamiroff). The deaths start to follow Guy's questions, and he realizes his employer is watching him as closely as he is watching the past.
