“He's the biggest thing to hit Japan since Godzilla!”

In 1992, Jack Elliot (Tom Selleck), a former MVP with the New York Yankees, is a first baseman whose batting average keeps falling. He gets traded to the Chunichi Dragons in Japan, where manager Uchiyama (Ken Takakura) runs the club by rules Jack has never played under. Fred Schepisi follows an aging slugger with maybe one good season left, and if he can't fit in, his career is over.
