Mr. Pip

“When they needed hope, he gave them great expectations.”

Matilda (Xzannjah Matsi) is a girl in a Bougainville village where a war is closing in. When the only white man there, Mr. Watts (Hugh Laurie), starts reading Great Expectations aloud at school, she is taken completely by the book and its boy named Pip. Andrew Adamson, who wrote the screenplay from Lloyd Jones' novel, directs it from the village children's side of the story.
