Connie Doyle (Ricki Lake) is eighteen, pregnant and alone, and she wants one thing, someone to take her in. On a train she meets Hugh Winterbourne and his pregnant wife Patricia, and after the wreck she wakes in a hospital where everyone assumes she is Patricia. Richard Benjamin gives her Hugh's mother, Grace (Shirley MacLaine), and Hugh's brother Bill (Brendan Fraser), and Connie finds herself drawn to the one while leaning on the other.
