Mulan: Rise of a Warrior

“Warrior. Princess. Legend.”

A call-up notice names Hua Mulan's aging father, and she answers it herself, cutting her hair and joining the army as a man. Jingle Ma follows her through the front lines of a war against the Rouran hordes, where she makes friends, loses some of them to the enemy's blade, and rises to command with her secret still hidden. The cost of that disguise is the film's real subject, and it is never greater than when she is most admired.
