“Their spirit would never be broken.”
In a remote Turkish village in the 2010s, five orphaned sisters, Lale (Güneş Şensoy) among them, live with extended family who hold to strict rules about how girls should behave. Deniz Gamze Ergüven's debut follows them as the relatives begin preparing their arranged marriages, and the house starts to close around them. What the sisters want is plain: to decide for themselves who they will become.
