My Beautiful Laundrette

“A sharp, sophisticated, funny, sexy, compassionate picture.”

Omar Ali (Gordon Warnecke) takes over a rundown laundrette from his uncle Nasser (Saeed Jaffrey) and brings in Johnny (Daniel Day-Lewis), the old friend and lover he can't shake, to help run it. Stephen Frears sets the business against Omar's father Hussein (Roshan Seth), the Pakistani community around them, and a gang of skinheads who haven't gone away. Omar needs the place to work, and the people closest to him keep pulling it apart.
