My Grandfather's People

An old man in Turkey keeps a longing he has carried since the 1920s, when the population exchange between Greece and Turkey forced his family off the island of Crete. Mehmet Yavaş (Çetin Tekindor) is aged now, and he hopes to see his birthplace once more before he dies. Çağan Irmak, drawing on his own grandfather's story, builds the film around that wish, and the years Mehmet has left are the cost.
