My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown

Christy Brown (Daniel Day-Lewis) wants to be understood, but he is born into a poor Irish family with cerebral palsy, unable to speak or move any part of himself except his left foot. At five he takes a piece of chalk in that foot and scrawls a word on the floor, with his steely mother (Brenda Fricker) beside him. Jim Sheridan follows the Brown household as Christy pushes toward painting and writing, with everything in his life riding on that one foot.
