My Life as a Zucchini

“SOMETIMES WE CRY BECAUSE WE'RE HAPPY.”

Courgette (Gaspard Schlatter), a boy who goes by the name his mother gave him, wants to be left alone with the memory of her after she dies. A kind police officer, Raymond (Michel Vuillermoz), drives him to a foster home full of other orphans his age, among them Simon (Paulin Jaccoud). Claude Barras fills the home with oversized heads and round, wide eyes, and Courgette peers out through them, still keeping one blue can of his mother's beer close.
