A scavenger hunt on Fifth Avenue sends the socialite Irene Bullock (Carole Lombard) to a dump by the East River, where a man named Godfrey (William Powell) turns out to be the "forgotten man" on her list. She hires him as the butler for her household of the loud, the spoiled and the plainly unhinged, and her sister Cornelia (Gail Patrick) sets about getting him fired. Gregory La Cava lets Irene's crush on her new servant grow in the middle of all that noise.
