My Night at Maud's

Jean-Louis (Jean-Louis Trintignant) is a devout Catholic who keeps to a strict moral code drawn from Pascal, and when he spots a pretty girl at church, he decides he will marry her. An old friend, Vidal (Antoine Vitez), introduces him to Maud (Françoise Fabian), a divorcee who talks easily about love and belief. Éric Rohmer keeps the two of them in her apartment through a long evening of talk, with Jean-Louis choosing his words carefully and Maud watching him do it.
