My People, My Country

(2019)Directed by Xue Xiaolu, Ning Hao, Zhang Yibai154 minDrama, History

Seven short films, seven directors, and one anniversary tying them together: the 70th year of the People's Republic of China. Chen Kaige and Zhang Yibai open the set with segments led by Ge You as Zhang Beijing and Huang Bo as Lin Zhiyuan, while Simon Yam, Zhang Yi and Song Jia turn up in the others. Each segment gives its own characters a stretch of the country's history to live through, and every one of them is a person before they are a date.
