My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done

“The mystery isn't who. But why.”

Brad McCullum (Michael Shannon) has killed someone and shut himself inside his house, and the police have the street surrounded. Detective Hank Havenhurst (Willem Dafoe) tries to understand how this quiet man ended up there, talking to the neighbors and the people closest to him. Werner Herzog follows that trail back through Brad's life, including his fiancée Ingrid (Chloë Sevigny), who has stood beside him and cannot explain him.
