“They met as enemies, but fate brought them together.”

Jun-shik (Jang Dong-gun) is a Korean marathon runner who wants only one thing, to beat Tatsuo Hasegawa (Joe Odagiri), the Japanese rival who has always stood in his way. Kang Je-gyu follows the two men as they are conscripted into one army after another, carried across the fronts of the war. A photograph of a Korean soldier in German uniform, found during the Normandy invasion, started the story, and the war keeps changing which flag a man fights under.
