Skeletal remains wash up on a Massachusetts beach, and Peter Moralas (Ricardo Montalban), a Barnstable cop, has only bones to work from. He teams with Boston police and a Harvard professor, Dr. McAdoo (Bruce Bennett), to learn who the woman was, how she died, and who killed her. John Sturges treats the case as a matter of measurement and patience, where the truth sits in the evidence and a body has to be proven before it can be mourned.
