A Paris doctor, Catherine (Fanny Ardant), hears a stranger's voice on her husband Bernard's voice mail and decides she needs to know the truth. She goes to a strip club and hires a call girl, Nathalie (Emmanuelle Béart), to seduce him. Anne Fontaine builds the film from the reports Nathalie brings back, and the question becomes how much a woman will pay to hear about her own marriage.
