Velvet Brown (Elizabeth Taylor) wins a spirited horse called Pie in a town lottery, and Mi Taylor (Mickey Rooney), a drifter who has landed in her family's English village, is pushed into training him. Clarence Brown follows the Browns through the hard work of getting a girl and a half-wild horse ready for a race, with Mr. Brown (Donald Crisp) and Mrs. Brown (Anne Revere) watching. Velvet has put everything she cares about on this one horse.
