A thousand years after civilization collapsed, the Valley of the Wind survives beneath toxic clouds that spawn a jungle of giant insects. Nausicaä (Sumi Shimamoto), a young princess who reads the insects' movements, flies her glider into the wastes to understand what others fear. As neighboring kingdoms wage war over the valley's resources, everything she discovers puts her people directly in the path of extinction.
