“Some people need to be taught a lesson”

John McGill (Conor McCarron) is a prize-winning schoolboy in 1970s Glasgow, an altar boy who is expected to amount to very little all the same. Peter Mullan follows him as he goes from victim to avenger, trading the classroom for glue and a knife. When John tries to turn back, the boy he was and the boy he has become are both against him, and a violent way out starts to look like his only choice.
