Never Look Away

Kurt Barnert (Tom Schilling) is a young artist who has escaped East Germany for the West, but the Nazi years of his childhood and the GDR that followed still weigh on him. He falls in love with Ellie (Paula Beer), and he keeps painting, trying to find a way to put what he has lived through onto a canvas. Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck tells it on a wide, sweeping scale, following Kurt across decades and both sides of a divided country.
