“Every fairy tale needs its hero.”

Zach Riley (Aaron Eckhart) walks out on a job at a prestigious university to become a psychiatrist at Millwood, a privately run mental institution. He keeps one fact from the people who hire him: Millwood is where his father, the novelist T.L. Pierson (Nick Nolte), spent many years of his life. Joshua Michael Stern puts Zach on the ward's grounds, a son in a doctor's coat, working in the same building his father lived in.
