“Find where you belong.”

Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd (Tom Hanks) is an aging Civil War veteran who travels the Texas frontier, reading newspapers aloud to townspeople who pay a dime to hear the news. Along the road he takes charge of Johanna (Helena Zengel), a girl raised by the Kiowa, and agrees to carry her to her last remaining family. Paul Greengrass keeps the camera close and moving, shooting the long dusty miles as a trip the two of them have to get through together.
