“Be happy.”

Thomas Rongen (Michael Fassbender), a Dutch coach with a short temper, is sent to American Samoa to take over the national soccer team, the worst anywhere. Taika Waititi puts him among players who laugh easily and lose without much fuss, led by Tavita (Oscar Kightley), the team's chairman. Rongen has to learn how to coach them, and what they might coach in him.
