Rose Loomis (Marilyn Monroe) is vacationing at a cabin in Niagara Falls with her older, gloomier husband, George (Joseph Cotten), and the marriage is already sour. Polly Cutler (Jean Peters), honeymooning nearby with her husband Ray, notices it first, then sees Rose in another man's arms. Henry Hathaway puts the falls behind nearly every scene, a constant roar the couples have to talk over.
