“LOVE. ACTION. COMEDY. SUSPENSE. EXCITMENT.”

In the early years of silent pictures, the lawyer Leo Harrigan (Ryan O'Neal) and the gunslinger Buck Greenway (Burt Reynolds) are hired to shut down an illegal film production. Peter Bogdanovich, working from stories he heard from the silent directors Allan Dwan and Raoul Walsh, has them wander onto the set and stay. Leo finds he can direct and Buck turns out to look like a leading man, and both fall for the same starlet, Kathleen Cooke.
