“The story of Cole Porter with those Cole Porter song sensations !!!”

Cole Porter (Cary Grant) is a songwriter whose first Broadway show flops, so he leaves for the First World War and ends up in a hospital bed. There he meets the nurse Linda Lee Porter (Alexis Smith), who is taken with his ideas, though romance has to wait while he goes home to New York. Michael Curtiz follows the shows, the marriage and the Europe trips, and the film keeps asking how much a life can give to the work.
