Night and the City

(1950)Directed by Jules Dassin95 minDrama, Crime, Thriller
“The inside story of London after dark.”

Harry Fabian (Richard Widmark) is a small-time hustler in London, a talker who never stops looking for the next angle and never has the money to back it. His girlfriend Mary (Gene Tierney) has covered his schemes for years, and when he comes to her for another loan, she has finally had enough. Jules Dassin shot it on location and at Shepperton Studios, but what holds the film together is the pull between Harry and Mary, one still reaching for the other.
