“In the middle of a kiss...Murder!”

Every night, Crane Stewart (Charles D. Brown) sits at the New York Star's graveyard-shift desk and tells a story he cannot let go, about a married detective and the woman who brought him down. Tony Cochrane (William Gargan) has a wife, Martha (Jeff Donnell), and a son, Johnny (Coulter Irwin), but he is drawn toward Jill Merrill (Janis Carter). Henry Levin keeps the telling close to the editor's desk, where the night shift goes on without him.
