Night of the Kings

“A film about resistance and the power of words in the face of violence.”

A young man (Koné Bakary) is sent to La Maca, a prison in the Ivorian forest run by its own inmates. When the red moon rises, tradition says the Boss must pick a new "Roman," and the choice falls on him: he has to tell the others a story. Philippe Lacôte puts him before the crowd, Blackbeard (Steve Tientcheu) watching, as he begins the tale of Zama King, with the whole night still ahead of him.
