Giovanni (Mayumi Tanaka) is a lonely, awkward boy whose father is away and whose mother is sick, and his afterschool job keeps him apart from the other kids. On the night of the Festival of Stars, he finds himself aboard a celestial train beside Campanella (Chika Sakamoto), his only friend. Gisaburō Sugii sends the two of them through the galaxy, meeting strange passengers and turning over questions neither boy can easily answer.
