Anna Bomasch (Margaret Lockwood) is the daughter of a Czech inventor whose knowledge the Nazis want for their war machine. He reaches England just as German troops take Prague, and the Gestapo follow close behind, willing to go to any length to bring him back. Carol Reed has Anna and a British agent (Rex Harrison) caught up in the chase, and she has no idea who among them can be trusted.
