Nobody in the Ughetto family can say exactly how Luigi Ughetto made it over the Alps, only that legend says he did and that his life in France began on the far side. His grandson, the director Alain Ughetto, narrates, with Ariane Ascaride voicing Cesira, the grandmother whose full story he never learned. In clay, the village of Ughettera sits small and hard-pressed, and the family's dream of leaving is still only a dream.
