“A lot can happen between the lines”

Ciki (Branko Đurić) and Nino (Rene Bitorajac), soldiers from opposite sides of the Bosnian War, end up in the same trench between the front lines, each with a weapon and neither able to leave. When the UN is asked to get them out, both armies agree to a ceasefire, though no one is sure it will hold. Danis Tanović, in his first film, keeps the two men close in a narrow trench, the camera never far from their faces.
