No One Writes to the Colonel
In a small town in the Mexican tropics, every Friday, an old man puts on his only suit and walks to the dock to wait for a letter. The Colonel (Fernando Luján) has been promised a pension, and everyone in town, his wife Lola (Marisa Paredes) included, knows it will never arrive. Arturo Ripstein, adapting García Márquez, leaves them with an empty larder and a son's death that neither of them will speak of.
