No Regrets for Our Youth

In 1933 Kyoto, Professor Yagihara (Denjirō Ōkōchi) is dismissed from the university for speaking out against the government, and the students who followed him scatter. His daughter Yukie (Setsuko Hara) is drawn between two of them, the cautious Itokawa and the restless, defiant Ryukichi Noge (Susumu Fujita). Akira Kurosawa lets her feelings for Noge pull against everything she was raised to want, and each of them finds the other harder to walk away from.
