No Way Out

(1950)Directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz106 minDrama, Crime, Thriller
“Is it a question... or an answer?”

In a county prison hospital in 1950, two brothers arrive with gunshot wounds, and Luther Brooks (Sidney Poitier), the Black doctor on duty, can't save one of them. The surviving brother, Ray Biddle (Richard Widmark), insists Brooks killed him and spits his hatred at anyone within earshot. Joseph L. Mankiewicz makes the film about what prejudice does to a person who has to keep doing his job anyway.
