“Your table is waiting.”

Joe Scaravella (Vince Vaughn) is still grieving his mother when he stakes everything he has on a restaurant in Staten Island. He wants real grandmothers in the kitchen, women like her, cooking the food they grew up on. Stephen Chbosky builds the story around Joe and Roberta (Lorraine Bracco), Teresa (Talia Shire) and Gia (Susan Sarandon), who start as strangers working one stove and slowly become a kind of family.
