A nightclub singer is hurt in a street accident, and the doctor who treats her, Richard Talbot (Kent Smith), goes home that night a different man. He is quiet, orderly and married, and Nora Prentiss (Ann Sheridan) has her own doubts about letting him in. Vincent Sherman follows Talbot as he weighs leaving her against divorcing his wife Lucy (Rosemary DeCamp), until a patient dies in his office and offers a third way out.
